Father, son brought heavy equipment to help save trapped Union students
Randy Campbell felt scared stiff as he worked in a trackhoe to pull students from collapsed buildings on Union University's campus the night of Feb. 5 tornado.
"I was scared I'd make a mistake and break a slab or hit the (trapped) boys," said Campbell, 49.
Firefighters and rescue personnel also dug at the debris with their gloved hands to reach students.While on the scene, officials requested Campbell, a former longtime Madison County firefighter, to bring his trackhoe to help with rescue efforts.
"The machine was able to move the heavy stuff that they would have had to break up into pieces to move," Campbell said Saturday. "It just made things go so much faster."

Indonesia's PT United Tractors said Friday its "Komatsu" heavy equipment sales rose 60 percent to 491 units in January from 306 a year earlier, led by sales to the mining and agriculture sectors.
The "Komatsu" heavy equipment grabbed a 55 percent market share in Indonesia during the month, the company told Thomson Financial.

Global Used Construction Equipment D11R Cat for sale
Well todays blog will be related to my recent trip to Saudi and the potential to sell D11R Cat crawlers. Wow. I'm well traveled but this was a new experience for me! Defiantly a different place culture wise! However, I was treated well and have no complaints about the people I met (with the exception of the cab drivers).
There is huge potential for selling used equipment in Saudi. The Saudis' are in the process of diversifying their economy and improving their infrastructure. For example, the $5 billion Land Bridge project which is connect Jeddah and Riyadh will serve a two fold purpose. First it will help transform the regions existing railway system and will also service the newly developing mining sector.

THIEVES broke into Edwinstowe's Thoresby Colliery earlier this week stealing 20 brass connector blocks from a compound area at the Ollerton Road site. Police are now investigating the incident which happened overnight between 28th and 29th January.
Insp Andy Ghan, local area commander for Sherwood, says the brass connector blocks were newly delivered heavy mining equipment.

Methodist renewal advocate Mark Tooley says United Methodist Church officials are urging church agencies and members to divest their holdings in Caterpillar Incorporated, for doing business with Israel.
Tooley, who directs the United Methodist Committee at the Institute on Religion and Democracy, says the UMC has about $15 million of Caterpillar stock in its pension fund. But he says the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society has unveiled a proposal to divest from Caterpillar ahead of the church's governing General Conference in April. Several United Methodist regional conferences have endorsed anti-Israel divestment, according to Tooley.

Dr. Chotchai and Dr. Hadikusumo organized MPM and CEIM Introductory Seminar in Saigon on 29 Jan 2008
On 28 January 2008, Dr. Chotchai and Dr. Hadikusumo organized "MPM and CEIM Introductory Seminar" in SEAMEO, Saigon. The purpose of the seminar is to explain our MPM and CEIM program and curriculum to potential students.Dr. Chotchai made a presentation on "The Need of Higher Education in Project Management". According to him, the construction growth in Vietnam is very high at about 12% of the National GDP. Vietnam is facing a new environment in constructing projects such as international investors and high complexity projects. He discussed that there is a big opportunity in the project management career especially for students who get their degree from international universities. Many Foreign Direct Investors project need qualified engineers who have good project management knowledge and English proficiency.
He mentioned that so far engineers learn project management through (i) short course training which is not sufficient to learn holistic view of project management and (ii) experience which may cost a lot of money since delay and cost overrun may happen.
Short course trainings usually only teach the hard components of project management such as cost estimation and control and project scheduling. However, due to the nature and characteristic of projects in which many companies and people work together at the same time, Project Manager needs to have the 'soft components' of project management such as communication management and skills, negotiation, team management, leadership, project organization and contract risk management which hardly can be learned through a short course training. This is one of the reasons for why CEIM offers higher education (i.e. master and doctoral) in Project Management in Construction.
Another reason, project manager needs to develop his/her problem solving skills. This problem solving skill can only be learned through intensive research work in which a scientific approach is used (observation, hypothesis development, hypothesis testing and analysis).
After Dr. Chotchai's presentation, Dr. Hadi made a presentation about 'Professional Master of Engineering in Project Management in Construction (MPM)' and 'Two-Phase Master and PhD'. Dr. Hadi highlighted that MPM is designed based on a balance between theoretical and practical aspects of project management knowledge while two-phase programs emphasize more on the theoretical aspects. Therefore, MPM is suitable for professionals who have been working in construction industry for at least three years, while two phase programs are suitable for fresh graduate engineers and researchers.
The seminar was attended by 25 potential students.
