AIT offers Professional Master in Project Management in Construction in Vietnam (HCM, HANOI, CANTHO and VUNGTAU)

In Vietnam, Asian Institute of Technology ( http://www.set.ait.ac.th/ceim or http://www.aitcv.ac.vn ) is offering a very innovative program called Professional Master in Project Management in Construction (in short, MPM). MPM program is innovative because the curriculum is designed by combining modern theories and best practice (practical) applications of project management in construction projects. The program aims to train and develop project engineers and project managers to be able to grasp the important theories of project management and be able to apply in construction projects.

On 8-10 August 2010, we invited Professor Garry Griggs (Consulting Professor of Stanford University) to teach Applied Project Management in Highway Project. Professor Garry was the President of Parsons Brinckerhoff Infrastructure, a reputable international consulting firm. And, now he is teaching in Stanford University as a Consulting Professor.

SET/CEIM opens first batch of MPM in Cantho City

The Professional Master in Project Management Specialized in Construction was launched in Can Tho City on May 7, 2010. Teacher Day in Vietnam, 20 Nov 2009

Dear all

MPM 1 and MPM 2 Ho Chi Minh organized a teacher day party on Sunday 15 November 2009 in Lion Beer Restaurant . Myself and Mr Eng Wan were invited to attend the party since we were in vietnam for teaching. The party was attended by MPM1 - Ms Dung Mai, Mr Bao and Mr Vu, MPM2 - Mr Dung, Mr Nam, Mr Hung, Mr Khe, Mr Phuc, Mr Bao, Mr Phong, Mr Anh, Mr Chuong, MPM3 - Mr Anh (class B), Mr Quang (class B), and CEIM Thailand - Mr Trung, Mr Quy, Ms Ngoc.

Professor Christian Brockmann delivered Applied Project Management in Highway Project Lecture on 26-28 June 2009 in Vietnam

Prof Christian Brockmann has delivered his lecture on applied Project Management in Highway Construction. He discussed effective project management approach and technology for highway construction. He presented some highway projects that he managed in the past, including Expressway BangNa Trad in Bangkok Thailand.

Students were very pleased to learn his practical knowledge in highway project management.

We will invite him again next semester! and he has agreed to come to Thailand and Vietnam to teach in our CEIM and MPM program.

Dr Hadikusumo and Ms Bich Hoa made a presentation in Cantho.

I made a presentation about the roles of project management for project performance and organization. Then, I continued with explaining how to build project management competency in an organization.

In the seminar, Mr Pham Hong Linh - the General Director of SouthWest Pipeline 700 km, also attended the meeting and shared his experience on why project management is very important in large construction projects.

The seminar was attended by construction professionals from Cantho city and neighbouring area.

30 students from Professional Master in Project Management came to AIT Thailand for one month internship and field trip. They stayed at AIT Thailand from 1 to 31 May 2008.

During the internship, the professional master students took three courses on applied project managements, preparing their project report. The three courses are
(i) applied project management in industrial complex which was taught by Mr. Burin K (Country Manager of Bovis Lendlease Thailand)
(ii) Applied Project Management in Oil and Gas Pipeline which was taught by Mr. Michael Sypsomos (Project Director of Chevron Thailand)
(iii) Applied Project Management in Oil Refinery Project which was taught by Mr. Chalermchai U. (Project Director of Bangchak Oil Refinery).

Project Director of Chevron lectured at AIT CEIM

Mr Mike Sypsomos, Project Director of Chevron Thailand gave a 15 hours lecture at AIT CEIM on "Applied Project Management in Oil and Gas Projects" on May 2008.


Day 1-
9:00 to 11:30am – Project description, definition, WBS, PEP, exercise and discussion
11:30am to 12:15pm – extended break for lunch
12:15pm to 4:00pm – Project Controls (Schedule & cost management, resources, estimate, progress, EV), exercise and discussion of Lessons Learned

Day 2-
9:00 to 11:30am – Risk Management (plan and implementation), Contract/ Procurement management and exercise
11:30am to 12:15pm – extended break for lunch
12:15pm to 4:00pm – PMI Project of the Year – Lessons Learned from a “world class” project & exercise. FEL, Project Audit and PM Maturity Model, Team Building, Coaching and other VIPs and best practices

AIT/SET Press Conference in Saigon 29 Jan 2008

On Tuesday 29 Jan 2008 at 3 pm, SET/AIT delegation organized a Press Conference in SEAMEO Saigon to introduce our Master and PhD programs offered in Vietnam. AIT/SET delegations are Dr. Nitin A. (Associate Dean), Ms. Nguyen Bich Hoa (SET Representative in Vietnam), Dr. Hadikusumo (CEIM and Vietnam Coordinator), Dr. Sumantha Guha (CSIM Coordinator) and Dr. Giao (SET Coordinator for Vietnam Promotion).

The press conference was attended by journalists from TV, newspaper and magazine such as HTV, Saigon Economic Times, Dong Nai Newspaper etc.

During the press conference, many interesting questions were raised by the journalists:

• Why the tuition fee is quite expensive? SET Delegation answered that our tuition fee is reasonable because we are an international university. Lets see the tuition fee for elementary (primary) and high school offered by international school in Saigon and Hanoi; the tuition fee is about USD 10,000 per year. AIT tuition fee is USD 13,000 - 15,000 for a master degree (post-graduate) level. With a master degree certificate from a reputed university, students can get a good job and career development. Therefore, investing in education is a good investment!
• How is research quality in AIT? AIT concerns a lot in quality of research. We are successful in maintaining and improving our tradition to involve students in high research standard. A very real example of this achievement can be seen from our high numbers of journal publication written by AIT student and Faculty.
