Mining Equipment List for the Cripple Creek and Victor, Gold Mine, in Colorado Springs

The development drilling, analysis, mining equipment list and requirements for the mine life extension of the Cripple Creek and Victor, Gold Mine, in Colorado Springs, USA are under review. The proposed extension is to include the development of new sources of ore and an extension to the additional heap-leach facility.

The Cripple Creek and Victor gold mine (CC&V) is in southwest of Colorado Springs in the US state of Colorado. For many years the Cripple Creek Mining District was a series of underground mines. Following the start in 1994 of the CC&V Cresson Project today it is a low-grade, open-pit operation.

In March 1999 AngloGold Ashanti acquired the Pikes Peak Mining Company, and interests in the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company (CC&V) and the Jerritt Canyon Joint Venture. The stake in the Jerritt Canyon Joint Venture was sold to Queenstake in mid-2003.

Up until mid-2008 the CC&V mine was a joint venture two-thirds owned by AngloGold Ashanti with Golden Cycle Gold Corporation owning the balance. In mid-2008 AngloGold completed a full acquisition of Golden Cycle which resulted in its taking 100% ownership of the CC&V mine.

Used Mining Equipment for Sale - A Good Option for Small Miners During Tough Times

The mining industry has been hit hard by the economic meltdown, falling price of commodities and the lack of credit making used mining equipment for sale an attactive option to keep operations going for smaller miners. While mining giants such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Anglo-American will remain robust, it is the smaller, junior miners who risk withering away or being taken over.

As with other sectors of the economy, access to cash is crucial. "Cash is becoming king – so those miners who can get and use cash are in a strong position," says Jonathan Lambert, director at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) in London. "It is a cash-intensive business and 2008 is proving a very difficult year to raise finance.

A budget of $8.4 billion, a load of construction equipment for the MGM CityCenter

MGM Mirage builds the CityCenter in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a budget of $8.4 billion, a load of construction equipment and estimated completion date in 2009, the project will take 200 million gallons of concrete and a spot on the Las Vegas Strip. MGM Mirage has filled in the last 76 acres of available real estate on the center portion of the Las Vegas Strip with the largest privately funded construction project in the United States. CityCenter, a multi-use plaza with three hotels, a casino, luxury apartments, and retail and dining facilities, will cover about 18 million square feet and may cost as much as $8.4 billion. But MGM is not the only one footing the bill. Dubai World, the state-controlled investment fund, dished out $5 billion for the project and now holds a 50 percent stake in the megaresort.

Used Mining Equipment Eases Out Cash Shortage

In early December, PWC released a report on junior miners coinciding with the Mines and Money Conference in London stating measures to cushion capital shortage with used mining equipment. In 2007, of the top 50 AIM mining companies listed on the main board, eight were acquired and 13 reported no revenue. Overall there was an 81% increase in revenue due to the rise of commodity prices; but despite this, profitability decreased. 2008 started on a high as these companies were using their existing cash resources but a lot of internal funds had been used, so they did not have cash to expand.

Lambert says that the market capitalisation for AIM in 2007 was £11.8bn at the end of December 2007 but by the end of October 2008 it had fallen to just £3.2bn. Junior miners are therefore taking steps to ensure they appear more profitable despite the difficultly of securing extra financing by the end of the year.

Boddington Gold Mine Needs Mining Equipment

The Boddington Gold Mine - about 130km south-east of Perth in Western Australia is the largest undeveloped gold mine in the region, it is gearing to be the highest producing gold mine once operations ramp up and as mining equipment are purchased over the next few years.

The $2.4bn project was initially a tripartite venture between Newmont Mining, AngloGold Ashanti and Newcrest Mining. In 2006 Newmont bought Newcrest’s 22.22% share, bringing its interest to 66.67% and ending any Australian ownership. AngloGold owns the remaining 33.33%.

Sources say that recent exploration has identified an extensive 19.57Moz of gold bedrock resource, which was the basis of the Boddington Gold Mine Expansion Project. Approved last 2006, the project will involve extracting the hard gold/copper ore that lies beneath depleted oxide pits at Boddington’s original mine site.

The project has an attributable capital budget of between A$0.8bn and A$0.9bn. At year-end, the overall project was approximately 65% complete, with engineering and procurement of mining equipment underway. Construction of the treatment plant was approximately 32% complete. At its peak the project is expected to employ some 2,000 workers. Once operation begins it is expected that around 650 full-time staff will be required.

Construction Equipment and Metro Manila Traffic

As I got trapped in this traffic bottleneck this morning at the construction site for a new LRT station along EDSA in Balintawak, I thought that they could use some of the UNUSED 2007 construction equipment fleet that I am exclusively selling in behalf of a major Australian mine contracting company here in the Philippines. One would wish riding a construction equipment such as a bulldozer to bulldoze one's way out of the congestion. But that's a bad idea.

Latin America’s coal consumption and use of mining equipment

Energy Tribune reported that the impressive growth of Latin America’s coal consumption and use of mining equipment in recent decades reflects three key factors like the region’s expanding economy, its failure to integrate neighboring electricity markets and a tendency to depend heavily on one power source which is coal - which requires mining equipment. There is no reason Latin America should be looking overseas for fuel supplies, since the region has an abundance of hydro potential, natural gas, uranium and oil. But coal, both imported and to a lesser extent, regionally mined, is playing an increasingly important role in the region’s energy sector and will continue to expand.

Philippine Mining Industry Targets China and Dubai for Investments and to Buy Used Mining and Construction Heavy Equipment

The Philippine mining industry is targeting China and Dubai for investments amid the slowdown in western markets due to the ongoing financial crisis. One of the business sectors to benefit from this is the used mining and construction heavy equipment suppliers.

Environment Secretary Lito Atienza said they hope to forge deals in a mining conference to be held in Beijing, China from November 10 to 13. He added a number of Dubai-based mining firms will also visit the Philippines this month to study their prospects and also look at used mining and construction heavy equipment for sale.

Atienza said contractors in Dubai are interested in iron, copper and gold mining in light of massive construction works in the country. He noted Middle East countries have become big markets for metallic minerals which are used for making steel and other construction materials.

Atienza said the government is enticing foreign investors to put their money in mineral extraction as well as production and processing."Even for Middle East companies, we’re not interested in allowing them to just extract minerals," he remarked.

The government is expecting mining investments to hit $829 million by the end of the year, up by 25 percent from the $664 million in 2007 but below the full-year target of $1 billion. Investments for the first half already reached $260.6 million.

Mines and Geosciences Bureau director Horacio Ramos said the government expects mining investments in the second half of 2008 to reach $565.5 million, comprising capital poured into 40 projects, including Atlas Consolidated Mining's Carmen copper mine and Sumitomo Metal's expansion of its Rio Tuba nickel plant.

He added some of the planned investments that did not push through this year may be realized in 2009, thereby raising investments next year to around $2 billion.

The report quoted Mr Horacio Ramos head of the mines and geosciences bureau as saying that investments for the whole of 2008 are expected to reach over USD 826 million. Although this is USD 174 million short of the USD 1 billion target for the year, he said that "despite this economic turmoil, there is no scaling down of investment." Investments for the first half of 2008 reached USD 260.6 million. The Philippines aims to attract around USD 10 billion into the mining industry by 2011.

Goldhofer Mega PST

Goldhofer leads with trailer

For the first time since 1984, there is a new design of self-propelled modular trailer (SPMT). German trailer manufacturer Goldhofer's so-called mega PST can carry single axle loads of 50t.
"This is a completely new area in heavy transport," Goldhofer managing director Stefan Fuchs told Cranes Today at the April SC&RA annual conference in Florida. "Nobody thought of an improvement. Nobody was thinking of the possibilities."
Sales director Horst Haefele says: "Our strategy is not to copy the market, but to make something better. This trailer has some improvements compared to the regular SPMT, which has a gross capacity of 30t-40t." He added that its new trailer's 50t gross capacity comes with a 20% safety factor. Goldhofer intends to sell it for special transport uses in industrial environments such as shipyards and power plants. The transporter is too heavy to be used on most roads.
The Mega-PST is Goldhofer's first SPMT that is slim enough (2.4m or 94in) to fit inside a standard container. Its predecessor, the electronically-controlled PST-E range, is 3m (118in) wide.
Despite its greater loading capacity, the SPMT manages to achieve lower ground-bearing pressure when loaded because it drives with much larger wheels: 385 tyres on 22in (559 mm) diameter rims instead of 355 tyres on 12in (300 mm) rims. Tyre pressures have increased slightly; the PST range requires pressures of 147 PSI (10 bar); the new model 191 PSI (13 bar). This model is the first SPMT to diverge from 355 tyres, the company says.
The platform sits 1.5m (60in) above the ground and can hydraulically raise or lower by a total of 350mm (13 3/4in).
Each line runs on four wheels, divided between two side-by-side steerable axle units. Axles are spaced 1.6m (63in) apart. The units can be hooked side by side and to rear. The trailers come in units with three, four, five and six lines.
Power packs slimmed down to 2.4m width for these trailers produce power output ranging from 155kW to 360kW. The power packs comply with Euro 3, EPA Tier 3 and CARB 3 (California Air Resources Board) air quality regulations.
Three customers have already ordered 100 axle lines; Berard Transportation of Louisiana, and shipbuilders Nippon Express and affiliated transport firm UTOC of Japan. Another customer was not named.
The first trailer has already been tested and will be delivered in July. Haefele said that the development process has taken a year. Delivery times for new orders range from between one and two years.
Although there are only four manufacturers, Scheuerle, Kamag and Goldhofer of Germany, and Cometto of Italy, the total annual production of SPMTs is roughly between 1,000 and 2,500 units per year. Haefele said that Goldhofer makes between 500-800 per year, and estimated the total production capacity of SPMTs as slightly more than 1,000 lines. Bernd Schwengsbier, president of the Tii Group, which includes Scheuerle and Kamag, estimated their annual production capacity alone at 1,500 units."

Mammoet buys 650 modular trailer axle lines

Netherlands-based heavy lifting firm Mammoet has placed a huge order for 650 self-propelled modular trailer axle lines of SPMT from German manufacturers Scheuerle and Kamag.
The order, placed in 2007, includes some power packs. It will be delivered in 2008 and 2009, Mammoet said.
Mammoet will use the extra lines to expand the fleet, and is not planning to use them for any particular job.
It will receive 592 lines from Scheuerle and 50 from Kamag, said Bernd Schwengsbier, president of parent company Transporter Industry International sales. TII convinced Mammoet to switch 50 lines to Kamag because of production bottlenecks at Scheuerle.
He said that Scheuerle has a two-year waiting list for new SPMTs, despite having tripled capacity to more than 1,200 lines per year.
Fabricators can save money by assembling larger and larger units. Last year, Sarens' Norwegian subsidiary Transrig assembled 452 SPMT axle lines to lift a single 10,000t offshore platform topsides.
