Jeff Lee who works for Tiandi Heavy Industries in China, the manufacturers of fine modular heavy haulage trailers has sent me these shots of Chinese heavy haulage movements, including this monster one through an underpass! Up front is a rather nice Actros Titan 8x8. Anyway Jeff says: "Brian, here are phtographs of 3 new heavy transport moveemnts from our client in South China with our TIANDI hydraulic trailers and some Mercedes Actros heavy-duty prime movers. The biggest one is a super large 420-tonne reactor transported by 18x4 side-by-side combined TIANDI trailers." Now click through here for more..

A big old lump to get around the corner Jeff! Even with a nice wide road....

This looks to have an MAN at the back..unless it's a Chinese prime mover? And I guess these are the combiend side-by-side trailers...

"Dear Editor of Biglorryblog," says Jeff Lee from the Shanghai Fulangjie
company."I'm one of your fans for your fantastic blog and thanks for showing us
so many big lorries with great stories and technology from around the world.I'm
just back from Sudan last week after finishing a tough mission with 2x10lines of
hydraulic-modular trailers which are produced by our group Tiandi Heavy
Industries(THI)."

P1070199[1].JPG

Jeff continues: "During this transport mission, the fleet had to pass through
the coastal region of the Red Sea hills area - mainly desert (with lots of bad
sand and rain storms!) and difficult off-road conditions. I've taken some
pictures during my work and think this Africa heavy haulage story may be
interesting for you." To which BLB replies yer darn tootin Jeff! great stuff.
And click through here to see just how 'demanding' the conditions were... And
how you can see more of Jeff''s pictures...

P1070506[1].JPG

Road... What road...? Jeff says the move was carried out using two 480hp MAN
6x6 prime mover, 2x10lines TIANDI TJV1-k type Hydraulic modular trailers. The
contract called for the transportation of five 150-tonne MAN Diesel Engines from
Port Sudan to Atbara over a distance:of 500km...

P1070368[1].JPG

Sand everywhere andtemperatures from 23-50 degrees celsius!  Wide humidity
range too (15%-85%), And the conditions: "Sea port, winding & high gradient
of hills area, Desert, Sand Storm, Rain Storm, Offroad, Soft clay base, etc"
says Jeff.

P1070335[1].JPG

.

And yet more sand! "You can also visit my company website says jeff at www.fulangjie.com or my personal blog at

TIANDI lauches new hydraulic modular trailer

51.Chinese Leading Special Heavy Transport Vehicles Manufacturer - TIANDI Group (THI) and it's sub co. FLJ have just launched it's new TJV2 hydraulic moduar trailer which is also knowed as multi axle trailer. This trailer is the new upgrade version from TIANDI's regular TJV1 2990mm width modular trailer.

TJV2

By remaining the great loading capacity (22.5ton @ 18km/h) as those previous models, TJV2's main upgrade features are as follows:
Smaller turning radius: The TJV2 trailer's first wheel steering angle has been upgraded from +/-50 degrees to +/-55 degrees.
Better passing through capacity: Platfrom height from 1080 +290/-310mm changed to 1080 +/-325mm, which makes the trailer has even better passing through capacity on rough road.
Easy connection: The pipe connecting system is moved to both side of the trailer, which is easier for piping line connection during module combination. Fast connectors helps to increase work efficiency and safty.

the one follow is TIANDI's regular TJV1 Hydraulic Modular trailer

TJV1
(According to customer requirement, TJV1 can be adjust to combine with Nicolas MDE type and TJV2 can be adjust to couple with Nicolas MDED type from Europe.)

SCHEUERLE SPMT been tested before delivery for Australia Mining Company

SCHEUERLE transporters for handling 700 tons strip mining excavators
Reported by Transportweekly 22.12.2008 (Pictures from BigLorryBlog)

SCHEUERLE received an order from the company Griffin Coal Mining in Perth, West Australia, to deliver heavy duty transport vehicles for transportation of huge excavators and dumpers, which are used in the coal mining industry. The machines, weighing up to 700 tons, put very special demands on the transporters. After about one year of development and construction the self-propelled transport system, which is based on the successful SCHEUERLE InterCombi series, has now been tested extensively before delivery.

Griffin Coal Mine is one of the biggest strip mining companies in Australia. Approx. 200 kilometres south-eastern of Perth, about 3 million tons of coal is mined annually. Already during the beginning of the Australian industrialisation, the Griffin Coal Mine played an important role by supplying to the national railway company. By now Griffin Coal Mine Company is one of the major subcontractors of the West-Australian energy sector, that operates several energy producing power plants with coal from the so-called „Colli Basins“.
If additional coal fields are to be made accessible to secure future energy supplies, massive excavators and dumpers also have to be relocated to this new site. However, a strip mining excavator, which can weigh up to 700 tons, is not designed for covering long distances. For this reason Griffin Coal Mine Company placed an order with SCHEUERLE to develop a powerful transport system.
This system is based on the successful SCHEUERLE heavy duty transport vehicles of the “InterCombi” series. Four 6-axle modules and two 2-axle modules can be coupled with one another depending on the load. 20 of a total of 56 pendulum axles possess a hydrostatic drive. To assure the traction drive, these axles are charged with pressure oil by two Power-Pack Units (PPUs). Also fed by the Power-Pack Units are the steering cylinder and the axle compensation cylinder, which position the vehicle platform for loading and unloading accordingly and ensure the necessary axle compensation while driving at ground unevenness. The transport combination is controlled by a radio remote control unit. Via joy-stick all important functions like forward and backward gear as well as the steering can be handled. If the transport of a huge excavator is operated, the vehicle combinations can be coupled side-by-side with 14 axle lines each and connected with distance bearings. The combination is lowered at rear and raised at front: A drive-up bevel is formed, which enables the excavator to navigate onto the platform trailers from behind. The distance between the ground and the platform elevation at rear is bridged with drive-up wedges. When the excavator has reached its scheduled position, the transport system of Intercombi vehicles will be levelled back to drive elevation. With the hydrostatic-driven SCHEUERLE heavy duty transport combination, the West Australian customer Griffin Coal Mine Company receives a very flexible transport system, which enables an efficient, fast and reliable transport of heavy machines or ulterior equipments of strip mining companies.

Gas Turbine Transport After The Earthquake

June 3th, 2008. DEC Launches its first Gas Turbine transport with a 3 files hydraulic modular trailer, produced by Hubei Tiandi Heavy duty Industrial Group, after being stopped on its journey by the The Wenchuan Earthquake happened in May 12th, 2008, Sichuan Province, West China.

The Gas Turbine is 13.8m length, 5.8m width, 5.6m height, and 380t weight, costs 270 million RMB. When the "5.12" earthquake happened, It was just on its journey to the Leshan Port, where the ship will take it to Putian, Fujian Province, South East China. After the first worst 8.0 magnitude earthquake finished, the 380t Gas Turbine still tightly sat on the hydraulic modular trailer, since to the trailer's excellent hydraulic platform balance system. Concerning about the road and bridges in front may be destroyed during the earthquake, the Gas Turbine was stopped in the Huaqiao toll station nearby. After finish nearly two weeks' inspecition of 144 bridges and fix 9 hidden troubles of the road and bridges, the 380t Gas Turbine starts its journey again.

DEC is one of the worst hit enterprise in the "5.12" earthquake. Thousands of workers were injoured and dead, Almost all the infrastructures were totally destroyed. The direct ecnomic losses have reached over 5 billion RMB. However, the re-launch of the 380t Gas Turbine shows the world an un-clobbered DEC and also shows DEC's steady confidence of recovery from the disaster.

SPMT - Self Propelled Modular Transporter

A Self Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) is a platform vehicle with a large array of wheels on the bottom. They are used for transporting massive objects such as bridges, oil refining equipment, huge motors, large bridge sections, and other objects that are too big or heavy for trucks. These vehicle may also be called a Self Propelled Modular Trailer.

SPMTs are increasingly used in the construction and oil industries, and have been recently begun to be used to replace bridge spans, in the United States and Europe, and more recently, Canada.

A typical SPMT can have a grid of several dozen computer-controlled wheels, all individually controllable and steerable, in order to evenly distribute weight and steer accurately. Each individual wheel can swivel independently from other wheels, to allow the SPMT to turn, move sideways, or even spin in place. Some SPMTs allow each wheel to telescope independently of each other, so that the load can be kept flat and evenly distributed while moving over uneven terrain. As SPMTs often carry the world's heaviest loads on wheeled vehicles, they are very slow vehicles, often moving at under one mile per hour while fully loaded. Some SPMTs are controlled by a worker with a hand held control panel, while other SPMTs have a driver cabin. In addition, multiple SPMTs can be combined to transport massive building-sized objects.

SPMTs have also been featured on Discovery Channel during shows involving engineering.

Normal load/axle-line: 22.5tons or 32.5tons.
Drive type: Hydrostatics
Steering type: Normal linkage steering (first wheel max. steering angle 55-60degree) or independant steering (also called e-multi steering. all wheels +/- 115 to 135degree or even 360degree steering).
